Haberfield Residence

Purchased as a “renovators delight” the new owner wanted to transform this run down property into an energy efficient home.

David Baillie Architect needed to overcome many challenges and as the property was located in a heritage conservation area there were additional demands from local council to be managed.

The end result delighted both the owner and council. The front of the home remained virtually untouched while the rear was transformed into a wonderful year round living area.

Warm in winter, cool in summer and extremely energy efficient thanks to features such as:

  • north facing bi- fold doors allow sunlight to stream through the home during winter
  • wrap-around verandah keeps the home cool in summer and also provides pleasant exterior shading
  • tiled living room floor provides excellent heating qualities in winter and is cool in summer
  • garage was designed on the west side of the home to provide excellent protection from summer sun and bad weather
